Agreement on Fisheries
The Agreement on Fisheries between the EU and the Faroe Islands, which came into effect in 1980, provides a framework for annual consultations between the EU and the Faroe Islands on the exchange of fishing opportunities and reciprocal fishing access in each other’s waters.
The Minister of Fisheries is the responsible government minister for bilateral fisheries cooperation with the EU, with officials in the Ministry of Fisheries maintaining contacts with their counterparts in the Directorate General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries in the European Commission.
