Northeast Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC)
NEAFC is the regional fisheries management organization for cooperation on fisheries for pelagic and deep sea fish stocks in the Northeast Atlantic. Decisions taken in NEAFC for the regulation of fisheries on shared pelagic stocks in international waters are usually based on prior agreements made between the relevant coastal states. The area covered by the NEAFC Convention stretches from the southern tip of Greenland, east to the Barents Sea, and south to Portugal. NEAFC has also adopted measures to protect vulnerable marine habitats in international waters, including corals and seamounts, from the impacts of fisheries and there is an active technical cooperation between NEAFC member countries on inspection and control issues.
The Faroe Islands participate in NEAFC together with Greenland in a joint delegation referred to as Denmark in respect of the Faroe Islands and Greenland (DFG).
